"I found a studio on the Upper West Side; the broker fee was only one month’s rent, as compared to 15% of the year’s rent from other brokers. And I got my bid in fastest."
This encapsulates in two sentences why I would never live in NYC.
It's a brutal part of life here. Once you're in a place you can be effectively locked in there for years, depending on your work situation. The City Council is about to vote to stop that practice and force the brokers to be paid by the landlords instead. We'll see how it goes...
I very much enjoyed this episode. I have lived in both the West Village and the Upper West Side (some 20 years ago!) and have fond memories of both. I really miss the energy of Manhattan. I wish you the very best as you acclimate yourself to newer surroundings. You have a fan!
Beautiful!!
Thank you!
Completely understand, Jim! So happy for you.
Thank you! Some day we will trade stories!
I’d love that. Much in common.
This was just lovely.
You wordsmith, you!
Easy to have good things to say about this neighborhood!
Beautiful piece.
