Great piece, Jim. Reminds me of the conversation in Palliative Care with a Next of Kin as I helped her gather her loved one’s belongings. She said, “You know, when they first asked me if I wanted to talk to the chaplain I said no. I’ve had bad experiences with religious people in hospitals before. But, if I’d known it was you, I’d have said yes. I wish I’d said yes sooner.” ☺️ I often feel like I’m the invisible means of support 🙃 Maybe that’s why Chaplains don’t feature in casting? I think your ideas here are great. 🎉🐨
Jim, it’s so funny you brought this up… I’ve watched the 4 episodes of the Pitt and felt the same about the spirituality and pastoral care demonstrated in this show. Actual practical maningful ways for people to navigate suffering in life. So refreshing!
He’s not recent but what about Fr Mulcahy on M*A*S*H?
I had the same thought!
If you watch The Pitt, he's so clearly acting like a chaplain, it's both lovely and kind of begs the question...
Great example.
Maybe you should write a pilot show called Holy Shift
Hmmmm. I have a great screenwriting who is a hospital chaplain. I'll tell him that.
We love The Pitt and you are right you don’t ever see a chaplain. We have stopped watch Greys but maybe I need to go back to it.
