It’s March! Spring is upon us,* as are Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday, Lent, Holi, the murder of Julius Caesar by his friends, St. Patrick’s Day, Eid Al-Fitr, and my friend Joe’s birthday.** In New York the spring season on and off Broadway is really kicking off, in Hollywood all the stars are getting ready to get gussied up for this Sunday’s Oscars****, and in Brazil the whole nation is dancing.*****

But what does March have in store for you? Check out the Marchmanac and see!

*Depending on location and the fickle whims of the gods, spring may be upon us, months away, or 6 months from now, because the planet Earth has a north and a south, thanks very much.
**He turns 56 on March 2nd, the same day that Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese turns 62 and his Treasurer Jim Chalmers turns 45. ***
***Oh what, Northern Hemisphere-ers, birthdays only matter if they happen above the Equator?
**** Look at you, getting all cocky March 2nd. You’re the second day of the month. You’re barely March at all.
***** Brazilian Carnival began today and ends the day after March 2nd, because March 2nd is really not that important.

March 1

March 1st loves a theme. It is World Compliments Day (nice going, March 1st!), Peanut Butter Lovers’ Day*, and Baby Sleep Day, which supports families who are struggling to develop healthy sleep habits in their babies**.

March 1st is also Ron Weasley’s birthday (he’s 45 this year)***, and the day in 1787 that the State of Franklin— yes, there was a U.S. state of Franklin, formed in 1784 by citizens of what was then North Carolina and would now be East Tennessee who were sick of being ignored by the federal government—was officially rejected by Congress. They had original named their state Frankland but changed it to try and win the support of Ben Franklin lol.

In 1973 Pink Floyd also released Dark Side of the Moon on March 1st. It stayed on the Billboard charts for 957 weeks.

* How is this not every day.
** This is definitely every day.
***In the Harry Potter movies, middle aged apparently means “run down and sallow.”

March 2

March 2nd is the day after March 1st. Who cares*.

* No one, March 2nd. No one.
