SPIRIT WOW: A RESPONSE TO TOM REESE—KEEP THE MASS STREAMING

Streaming Mass is not an abomination, it's a responsibility.

Last week Religion News Service published a piece from the great journalist (and my friend) Tom Reese arguing that streaming the Catholic Mass online is “an abomination, akin to showing video of people eating a meal to starving people,” and that it should be banned as a practice.

While that language is a wee stronger than I might have expected—Tom, I think it may be time to switch to decaf ha ha—this argument that has been coming since the pandemic. But I think its origins have far less to do with the pandemic than they do with the state of the church.
